Amyloidosis is a medical condition where a protein substance, amyloid, is deposited in internal organs, such as the liver or kidneys, leading to death due to acute hemorrhage or organ failure. There are no known consistently effective treatments or means to prevent these conditions. Development of a genetic test to detect carriers is desired.
